Paleo Plum Pie


This dessert could also be called a ‘Gluten-Free Plum Tarte’ but the P-literation in “Paleo Plum Pie” was too nice a title to pass up.  I made this dish at the last minute Friday afternoon when I saw I had some apples and plums going bad. It took me 5 minutes to prepare (I had someone else cut the fruit for me, to be fair) and it turned out to be a big hit.

I used the recipe for gluten-free pie crust from Elana’s Pantry and then made up the topping mixture myself. This pie crust is really perfect and the cooked fruits on top soften the crust to a marzipan-like consistency making the dish extremely tasty, and needless to say, healthy too!

Paleo Plum Pie


  • 2 cups unblanched almond flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3-5 ripe plums and/or apples cut into slivers (Use any fruit you enjoy alone or combined)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar or maple syrup or honey or coconut sugar (use whichever sweetner you prefer. I used coconut sugar when I made it but any of these will work well.)


Pie Crust
Step 1
Mix the first 4 ingredient (almond flour, oil, egg, salt) together for 30 seconds in a food processor until it is a dough consistency. Take out dough and spread thinly onto the bottom of a pie pan or square baking dish.
Step 2
Mix plums and apples together. Toss in cinnamon, sweetner and lemon juice and blend together well. Pour fruit mixture over pie crust and bake uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour until crust on bottom is brown. Check to make sure it doesn't burn.
